Six Years Old!

Saturday we celebrated Wyatt's sixth birthday although it was really Sunday. During last years birthday planning Wyatt decided he wanted a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle birthday party and I was doing the wait and see routine since it was a whole year away. A lot can change in a year. But not that.

We had it at the clubhouse again since we don't have a lot of space. We had about 9 kids and two little ones, plus moms and dads, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. Wyatt had been literally counting down the days for months.

Since we were doing a TMNT party we had to have pizza. So we had made up some homemade, and some Hot and Ready's due to my failure to figure out how much dough was needed. I hadn't thawed enough, so I had Nick run into town a 45 minute round trip for three Hot and Ready's to supplement. Turned out we only really needed one more, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. A huge thank you to my mom who made the pizza's for me as I erred on prep time as well.

I had planned on going to the Mom 2 Mom Sale that morning and I am so glad I sacrificed some good deals, otherwise I would have been in big trouble time wise! I got up at 7 AM sharp and started my morning making cupcakes and taking the dough out of the freezer. It was go, go, go the rest of the day.

I got down to the clubhouse to decorate just after 10 AM with the party starting at noon. Yikes! After unloading the van I got busy. I was so relieved at 20 minutes to 11 AM my mom, dad, and adopted sister walked through the doors! What a glorious sight!

Dad and Josephine worked on blowing up balloons for me which we scattered through out the dining room. Dad ran up to the house to bring the ball bat that I had forgot for the pinata. My brother and dad helped tie up and hang the pinata's. THANK YOU!!!





























It wasn't long and the party was underway! We started off with eating lunch, then I had the kids make slime. Super easy, and a ton of fun! The kids decorated containers I found at Dollar Tree with TMNT stickers then mixed up equal parts liquid starch and Elmers glue. A big thank you to Rebekah and Teresa for helping with that as well!

After making slime we did the pinata's. Nick and I made four, one of each of the Turtles. We hung them up and put a little candy in each, but most of it in one random one. I have to say the kids loved it. It was so much fun watching them.

After the pinata's were broke and candy gotten we did cake and ice cream followed by gifts. Oh, did I mention Michelangelo is his favorite? It was a whirlwind of a party, and although it was a lot of work it was so much fun! I can't believe my baby is six! Neither can Wyatt. A few days later he said, "I still feel five..." After all the hype counting down the days for this momentous occasion, I think he was expecting to feel different too.

Birthday Girl!

Josie had her 1st Birthday Friday! So hard to believe it's been a year already! I feel like it has just whizzed by. So very different from Wyatt where it seemed I took that all in a little at a time. She has changed so much:

She is now 16 lbs 11 oz, only gained 8 oz since her 9 month check up. And she is 29 inches tall, up five inches from her last check up. She had three vaccinations and did very well. Over all a healthy little girl!

On Friday we let her have a cupcake after dinner. {Her first one ever.}

We went to Aspen Park again together all four of us. We had a wonderful afternoon.

Then on Saturday my parents and brother came over and helped us celebrate! Sorry to say, her cake looks NOTHING like I pictured in my head! If you think that this bad you should see the backside!

She had a death grip on it the whole time she was eating it. Squeezed it in her hands as hard as she could.

Then she got to open her gifts. She did good the first two, then lost interest in the whole process.

She loves her cart, but sadly she is too short to operate it yet!

Wyatt Turns Five!

We had an awesome weekend, Saturday, Wyatt turned five! His choice of party: Super Hero. Before I get into the party I just want to say what a gift our sweet Wyatt has been. The last five years has been such a blessing. Wyatt has grown from our little baby boy to a smart little boy. Always having something to say and anything but shy, he keeps us on our toes. I can't believe how he has grown. He weighs about 40 lbs now, I can hardly lift him anymore, and getting so tall!

We got his party planning underway fairly easy. Sent out the coolest invitations ever:

Found this on Etsy at Suenios Encantados.  They did a fantastic job! But, I made a big mistake. I forgot to call the Clubhouse and reserve the date for his party. I remembered to call AFTER I sent the invitations! And guess what...they are closed for renovations for at least two weeks. So, I had to quickly find a new location for the party. After numerous phone calls we found that we could use our church for the venue! Perfect!


And so the party was moved to the Comins Mennonite Church. And there we began set up for our party! We had "Wonder Dogs" {Hotdogs stuffed with cheese wrapped in crecent rolls}, "Doctor Octopus Dogs" {Hotdogs cut in half and legs cut in one end to form legs}, and "Joker Juice." We had a Super Hero Photo Shoot. We popped Energy Capsules. And of course face painting!

We made homemade comic book bunting and a city-scape made from poster board. And got a couple extra capes and masks from a shop called FunKidStuff.

I have to say I was completely exhausted afterwards, but it was so worth it! Wyatt had so much fun. And it was so nice visiting with everyone that came! I think it is safe to say Wyatts 5th birthday was a huge success!

Ice Cream Social Birthday Party

It has been a whirlwind of a few weeks, but I think things should start slowing down soon. We had Wyatt's big "Birthday Bash" today and had a great time catching up with family and friends. I think it is safe to say Wyatt had a fantastic time!

This year we decided to do an Ice Cream Social. Who doesn't like ice cream? I know I do! I found the perfect cups for the ice cream on Etsy from a shop called PaperTreats. They were a little smaller than I hoped for, but perfect for kids.

Of course we had to have toppings to go with our ice cream, so toppings we had!

We had crushed Kit Kat Bars, Reeces Peanut Butter Cups, Mint Cookies, Oreos, and Graham Crackers. We also had M & M Mini's, Mini Chocolate Chips, Sprinkles, Peanuts, Strawberry Coulis, and homemade Chocolate Syrup. I think that about covers it!

Then going with the "ice cream" theme we had Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes!

Of course a party isn't complete without punch. I did one can of frozen fruit juice with three cans water, one 2-liter of Ginger Ale, and Raspberry Sherbert. I cut up lemons and limes into slices put in a muffin tin and covered with a little water to freeze for my ice. I found some very cool straws at Hobby Lobby my last visit and thought that the kids would get a kick out of them. They got to take them home too!

All the kids got to leave with favor bags. I found white paper craft bags at Hobby Lobby and painted them for something fun.

Then I included a Kool-Aid play-doh recipe with all the dry fixings...

  ...and a CD of Wyatt's favorite tunes. I made the envelopes out of scrapbook paper.

I even made party hats for the kids using cereal boxes, scrapbook paper and Mod Podge, but I have to admit that effort may have been in vain. The kids weren't all that interested in them.

It was a lot of fun to plan and I am very pleased with how it all turned out. I hope everyone had as good as time as we did! I can't believe we have a four year old already, how time flies!
